Blog 6 MUVE Locations - The Realm of Light
The next location I chose to look at was the Realm of Light
which can be located here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Realm%20of%20Light/221/154/24
I chose here as my second location because it amazed me how
detailed and beautiful you could make a place using SL’s fairly limited
graphics. It felt like a great contrast to the Ivory Tower because unlike how
the tower exists for practical and educational reasons, the Realm of Light almost
purely exists for aesthetic reasons.
When you teleport into the world, you land in an amazingly
detailed forest with flying butterflies, fairies, detailed wispy grasses, trees
with little glowing particles on them, and many other fantastic things. There’s
relaxing sounds of birds, insects, and running water which make it obvious, along
with everything else, that this is a place to relax and enjoy the scenery.
The forest:
There’s many fantastic buildings and places to discover, and
you can interact with the place by sitting on things that have custom animations,
or by dancing or just by walking around and enjoying the place.
It gives of a vibe of being
a magical fantasy world with the fairies, a dragon, lots of fantasy style
buildings, and just the general scenery gives of the magical forest feel.
Some structures:
A place to relax:
Looking at how it is built, there must be many sculpties in the
world as there are many quite complex objects. Most of the things in the world
must have taken a long time to make. There’s also extensive scripting with
custom seating animations for many objects, as well as the large number of
animated objects like fairies and butterflies. Water is also animated quite
cleverly so definitely lots of scripting involved.
Comparing the Realm of Light to the Ivory Tower shows a stark
difference in the areas that had the most work put in them. The Realm has had basically
all the work put into aesthetic stuff, like complex objects and animations, and
all the various sounds in the location. The Ivory Tower, however, has had almost
all the work put into detailed information cards and many examples, as well as useful
places for testing stuff out. If you compare 2 informational locations you
could find differences in what sort of information they offer, but these two
locations are built for entirely different purposes
